What Midgetqueen's Reading (OMG Busy As Hell Edition!)

Would love to put in some original comment, but I'm having to grow six extra arms to answer the phones and deal with the zillion people at this visitation as it is. So, here's another you-oughta-read roundup.

-I freaking love RH Reality Check. Today's best articles (IMO) examine the absence of abortion-care education in many med schools, and the related waning numbers of abortion doctors. (If you can't legislate it away, just refuse to educate on the subject?) The fact of how few and far-between family planning and abortion clinics are already, coupled with still-declining numbers, greatly concerns me. Though I have faith that if we have to, we're smart enough to self-teach and have a Jane Collective 2.0.

-Some of the victims of rampant foreclosures don't have as much of a voice. Hundreds of animals are being either abandoned in foreclosed homes to die, or dropped off in already-overcrowded shelters. Here's a few ways you can help them.

-Question of the day: What was your "click moment" when you realized you were a feminist?

-Hugo gives the best damn dating/relationship advice I've ever heard.

-My fellow bitchin' female monarch, the Red Queen, asks how come it's ok to ask Chelsea Clinton about Monica Lewinsky, but no one asks Meghan McCain about her homewrecking mother and philandering father?

-KendallMCK shows that yes, the "women as meat" concept CAN be funny when it's this ridiculous. LOL!

-McCain might have an easier time posing as a non-racist if he didn't have such a damn huge track record of being a racist.

-Anji talks about the politics of hair. I'm still not ready to put down my razor, but it really is a thought-provoking read.

-According to this hour, husbands create an average of 7 extra hours of housework per week for women. Don't even THINK about it, Zach! :p

-This is relevant to domestic abuse prevention and protection, and my passion for renters' rights: New law in Wisconsin allows domestic abuse victims to get out of their rental agreement without penalty. Obviously this is very important. Nobody should be forced into a catch-22 of stay with your abuser, or escape but be financially ruined by expensive break-lease penalties.

-And finally: Melissa has a Very Important Announcement:
Feminism is an integral part of progressivism.

If you're not a feminist, you're not a progressive.

No matter how much you hate Bush.

No matter how much you hate the Iraq war.

No matter how much you hate our current torture policy.

No matter how much you want to restore habeas corpus.

No matter how much you're totally going to vote for the Democrat in November.

If you're not a feminist, you're not a progressive.

You're a fauxgressive.

End of story.
